What platform is Dreamstate Legends built on? (How will I be able to play it?)

Dreamstate Legends will be playable in a browser at launch. It is intended to be played on a computer or tablet. Our goal is to expand to other platforms when it's feasible.

Is Dreamstate Legends a physical board game or physical tabletop RPG?

Dreamstate Legends is a digital game that will be playable in a browser. That said, this project began with the primary intent to make a physical, tabletop roleplaying game without the need for pend and paper.

This design constraint was the biggest factor that brought about my best ideas that are still in the game. As the scope of the game increased, it became more difficult to playtest physically, so I converted it to a digital game.

I have the print-ready assets and rulebook for a physical game, which I intend to publish at a later time.

How much will it cost? What is the pricing model?

I don't know yet. Built in are different access levels, which will be represented in the pricing structure.

What are the different access levels in the game? What do you get with each?

The following access levels are currently in the game:

  1. Adventurer: The ability to join games hosted by other players and play as a hero.
  2. Storyteller: The ability to join games hosted by other players and play as a hero and host Dreamstate campaigns and levels as a Game Master.
  3. Quest Master: All of the above, plus the ability to create your own levels and campaigns using the built-in level editor using official Dreamstate assets.
  4. World Builder: All of the above, plus the ability to upload content and create your own assets including map tiles, map objects, items, status effects, skill schools, skills, encounters, cards, abilities, secret objectives, enemies, npcs, character classes, and sound effects.

What is the gameplay like?

Dreamstate is a multi-player only (for now), turn-based tabletop role-playing game that's meant to be played with the same group over numerous sessions, like a normal tabletop game is played. The key differences are that the Game Master is not just a facilitator or storyteller, but also a competitive player working against the heroes.

Heros will engage in combat with enemies, find secrets and clues, solve puzzles, explore, find treasure, and experience special encounters.

What's in the level editor? What can you do?

In addition to a simple, drag and drop interfacing for placing tiles and objects, the Dreamstate Legends level editor has a built in dynamic wiring engine.

Tiles and objects within a level can each have multiple and various properties, actions, conditions, and effects, enabling you to build and endless number of puzzles and experiences. We're excited to see what you create.

How is the Christian worldview reflected in Dreamstate Legends? What makes this game Christian?

Dreamstate Legends takes place in a fictional fantasy world, therefore places, characters, and "history" will not refer to real places, people, or history.

In general, Biblical principles remain true, no matter which "realm" one may go to, either real or make-believe.

Thematically Dreamstate will assume a Creator, a fallen world due to sin, redemption through a savior (who is the Creator), and resurrection from the dead into glory. This is the format for every good story and it's the inescapable reality that makes a story good, either real or make believe. Creation, Fall, Redemption, Resurrection/Glory.

Good guys are fallen creatures, but good because they acknowledge and give thanks to the Creator (Romans 1), trust in the Creator, and worship the Creator. Good guys understand that things were created in hierarchy and have order, for purposes set by the Creator, and the gladness of life is found in those purposes.

Bad guys are bad. They take the created things that the Creator made for specific good purposes and then twist them for their own evil purposes. They sow rebellion against the Creator, they hate what is good, and they seek to erode order and hierarchy except to keep themselves at the top for the purposes of tyranny.
